Local residents address Fiscal Cliff

BINGHAMTON -- As the Fiscal Cliff looms ever closer, local members of Citizen Action are voicing their concerns.
 
They were asking Congress not to "drop the ball on the middle class," saying that less than one percent of the Richard Hanna's Congressional District would see a tax increase if the Bush Tax Cuts were allowed to expire.  Shelia Cohen, Professor Emeritus at SUNY Cortland says that taxing the richer will better society.

"How can we call ourselves a society that respects it's elders and protects it's children if we're talking about picking the pockets of the poorest, just so the wealthiest can have to pay a few more dollars in taxes," Cohen said.

Congress is scheduled to meet throughout Monday to come to at least a preliminary decision on how best to avoid the fiscal cliff.
