Bearcats lose to Lehigh by 30
12/29/2012 (Updated 10:37:08 PM)BETHLEHEM, Pa. Becky Guman finished with a game-high 18 points, leading Lehigh (5-6) to a 67-37 win over Binghamton (1-11) in the opening round of the Lehigh Womens Basketball Christmas Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Stabler Arena. It marked the first game the Bearcats have played since Dec. 15.
Guman, who scored 12 of her points in the first half, was one of three Lehigh players to reach double figures in scoring. Katie OReilly added 12 points while Kerry Kinek finished with 11 points.
Lehigh blew the game open early with a 22-2 run in the first 8:30 of play. Guman drained a trio of three-point field goals and the Bearcats misfired on 12 of their first 13 field goal attempts.
Its a matter of coming out to compete, especially against a team like Lehigh, head coach Nicole Scholl said. We did get some stops towards the end of the first half and made a nice run but we got to start out better.
The Bearcats eventually found their footing and got to within 33-19 at the half. Sophomore forward Sherae Swinson led Binghamton with six points in the opening 20 minutes while junior guard Jasbriell Swain dished out four assists during that same span.
Down 49-31 with 10 minutes left in the second half, however, Binghamton went ice cold from the field the rest of the way. In the process, the Mountain Hawks went on an 18-6 run to end the game.
Swinson led the Bearcats with 11 points to go along with five rebounds and a pair of steals.
Binghamton faces Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday at 2 p.m. in the final round of the Lehigh Christmas Tournament.
