Comments From the Public on Fracking

The State Department of Environmental Conservation says they have received 837 comments in the past 16 days regarding the states proposed hydrofracking regulations.

The DEC revealed  its latest set of proposed high-volume hydrofracking regulations in late November giving them another 90 days to finalize them and allowing for another public comment period.

The comment period ends January 11th, however elected officials opposed to hydrofracking are calling for the governor DEC commissioner to the extend the comment period an additional 90 days.

They say many local governments don't meet before January 11th making it hard for them to approve comments for submission.

An additional extension would push the DEC past the February deadline for finalizing the regulations which would mean the regulatory process would have to restart.
