Driving Safe in the Snow

The Broome County Sheriff's Office is also spreading the word about driving safely during this upcoming storm.

Deputies are adding patrols Wednesday night and Thursday for the duration of the storm. The intensity of the storm - which could dump two inches of snow per hour after 9 Wednesday night- will dictate the frequency of the patrols. Deputies stress that if you have to drive to leave yourself extra time.

"Make sure you have at least half a tank of gas in your car. You know, when your car is covered with snow it's very important to clean your car off. Every day you're looking out all four of your windows, using your mirrors. Don't let the snow be a hinderance," said Captain Frederick Akshar of the Broome County Sheriff's Office.

Akshar also says to make sure your tires and windshield wipers are ready for the snow. He also agrees that the safest travel during a winter storm is no travel, and that you should stay off the road if at all possible.
