M-E students pay tribute to Newtown victims

ENDWELL -- In the wake of the Sandy Hook tragedy, when words alone won't do songs can provide comfort and healing.

That's what students in the Maine-Endwell District did this morning.  Homer Brink students Kindergarten 2nd grades performed the song "Joy to the World, Christmas Prayer" a song about praying for children to be safe from harm as well as warm and fed.  Staff say the children's voices are  just what the community needs

"I think with kids this age, a little bit of normalcy is what they need.  A quick explanation and then move on to the celebration of why it's great to live in this area, why we're safe at Homer Brink, and why we still have faith in society," said Homer Brink principal Bill Dundon.

The school also donated pajamas and blankets to children in need in the community.  The M-E High School Band also recorded "A Childhood Hymn" this morning.  It will be e-mailed to the Newtown School District along with a letter of condolence.
