Rail Trail Snag

Now here's a predictament involving Vestal's rail trail:

The town stands to lose 1.8 million dollars in federal stimulus money to expand the popular trail, because it doesn't have 900-thousand dollars of its own money to complete the project by a required August deadline.

Another possible loss: the 225-thousand dollars the town has already spent in design costs--which Vestal hoped to recoup through the federal stimulus money.

Town Supervisor John Schaffer says; " It's nice that we have such a facility--but the economic climate has changed so much, --we just don't have the money.  It's unfortunate, but that's the reality."
