Rice is proud of fellow BHS-alum Gray

BINGHAMTON -- King Rice and Jimmy Gray are from the same town, but their basketball journeys have been on different paths.

Rice, a former blue-chip prospect in high school, led Binghamton to back-to-back state championships in the 80's on his way to North Carolina where he led the Tar Heels to a Final Four.

Gray, a Patriots-star in his own right, wasn't highly recruited, and had to walk on to the Bearcats roster.

Despite the disparities in resumes, rice takes pride if his fellow BHS alum.

"I'm proud of Jimmy. Jimmy did things that not many people though he could do. Sometimes when you're from a small town a lot of people doubt you, says Rice.

But Jimmy had a dream that he was a division one basketball player. He just knew he was, and he's a pretty darn good one."
