BU President to Have More Say in Regional Development Plans

Binghamton University President Harvey Stenger is replacing Cornell President David Skorton as the new co-chair of the Southern Tier Regional Economic Development Council.

Stenger met with Governor Andrew Cuomo Wednesday as a part of Cuomo's tour of the area.

Stenger told us next year the council will shift more of its focus to projects that  emphasize innovation and technology.

"This'll be a big job, it'll be a couple-year term to lead it forward.  I think I see the kinds of potential in the Southern Tier that can make this Regional Economic Development Council process something we can use to make us move into the 21st century really strongly," said Stenger.

Some of the projects that Stenger is working on include an incubator project for downtown and integrating the hybrid bus system into the BU engineering curriculum.
