Local Foods Well Received

It may not be Small Business Saturday any longer -- but area residents were still being encouraged to buy local on Tuesday.

"Binghamton Rising" sponsored a meet the farmer dinner at Whole in the Wall restaurant in Binghamton.

Te restaurant buys all its products locally from farmers like Pete Reynolds who owns McRey Farms.

Organizers say that events like these not only convince people to buy local -- but help build connections as well.

"Buy local keeps more money in the local economy as opposed to letting it leak out.  This is about building a local economy and connections," said David currie of Binghamton Rising.

"Most of the time we end up getting new customers from events like this.  They try out stuff and like it.  They come up and buy from our farm," said Pete Reynolds, owner of McRey farms

While McRey farms supplied the beef for the evening -- the wine was supplied by the local black bear winery and McGregor Vineyard winery.
