Hair Competition Benefits Local AIDS Program

Wild and wacky hairstyles and colorful costumes filled the Binghamton Riverwalk Hotel and Conference Center on Sunday.

17 local salons battled each other to dress up models with over the top hair and makeup to go with a theme of their choice.  The outrageous updo's were part of the second Annual Hair Warz fundraiser to support the Southern Tier Aids Program.

There are about 400 people living with aids in the Southern Tier and proceeds from the 700 tickets sold will go towards helping them with their health expenses.

"I am completely flabbergasted this event was so successful that there were so many people here and the generosity of the salons," says John Barry, Executive Director of the Southern Tier AIDS Program.

"This is just a job to us and were just here for a good cause and that really was our main focus," says Simone Karns,  David Scott Salon.

The winner of the competition was the David Scott Salon.  Their theme was 1920s artist of the art deco period.  Organizers say they expect the competition to bring in about 8 thousand dollars.
