Vestal Fire Fighters Lend Helping Hand

Local firefighters are lending a helping hand to assist fellow New Yorkers in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.

The Vestal Fire Department loaded up a tractor trailer full of various items, including heaters and microwave ovens and hand delivered the supplies to Oceanside, Long Island.

It's the second trip the fire department has made down state. The items they brought down were donated by members of the community.

"Firefighting, you have a brotherhood/sisterhood and that's why we came down.  We realized you need some supplies so we decided  this was a great way to help out," says Justin Percosky, Vestal Fire Fighter.

"We were helped by people on the Island when we had our flood in 2006 and then again last September so it was just pay back time.  We had to do it," says Hugh Reynolds, President of Vestal Fire.

Reynolds says community support from the Southern Tier was so great, they still have a full warehouse of supplies that they will be donating to local charities.
