Confirmed NYSEG helicopter crash cause

A preliminary federal report confirms a fatal helicopter crash in Corning was caused by the aircraft getting caught in power lines.

The November 15th crash killed both the pilot and passenger.

According to the National Transportation Safety Board the helicopter, which was contracted by NYSEG to inspect power lines, crashed into the ground after the tail rotor assembly separated.

A post-crash fire consumed a majority of the main wreckage.
