Need a Heavy-Duty Snowplow? Go to a DOT Auction

In the market for a snowplow? How about a tractor. Well, today was your day as a pair of auctions of surplus of highway vehicles and equipment took place in the area.

Almost 200 items were auctioned off at the State's DOT site in Kirkwood and the Broome Developmental Center . Al the money raised goes into the state's general fund. DOT officials say it was the biggest sale yet at the site. Prospective owners say it's a great way to get a good deal.

"Vehicles aren't really that old, they've been used hard but, buy them at a decent price, that's why I'm here. Just looking for a small state rack maybe, or a small dump, use it around the house, put it on the road maybe, haul firewood," said Andrew Rickard, prospective buyer from Hartwick.

There are three more surplus auctions scheduled state wide.  The next one is Friday at the State Police barracks in Sidney.
