Local Planned Parenthood Pulling out of National Organization

A big change coming for Planned Parenthood of South Central New York--caused by the national organization's  insistence that abortions be performed on-site at affiliate locations:

The local chapter, which has locations on Hawley Street in Binghamton, as well as in Norwich, Oneonta, Sidney and Walton-- is breaking away from the national organization and will become  a non-profit independent, early next year.

CEO Debra Marcus of the local chapter says other than a name change-- and withdrawal as an affiliate, everthing remains the same--and funding will not be affected:

Once it withdraws from the national organization, the new operation will be called Family Planning of South Central New York.

Marcus says although most affiliates already provide abortions on-site, the local chapter doesn't, but will continue to refer clients to health facilities were abortions are performed.
we'll have more on this story Thursday, on Fox 40 news at six and ten.
