Rabid Fox on the Loose in Tioga County

In Tioga County, residents are being warned of a fox presumed to be rabid  that attacked a man and women in their driveway Tuesday in Tioga Center.

The fox similar to the one you're seeing now, is still at large.

The county health department is urging residents to be careful when walking outside, and the Tioga Central School District is limiting recess and monitoring students outdoor activities.

The couple that was bitten has received prompt treatment.

"Rabies can actually kill someone.  Fortunately, in the U.S. if a person does receive prompt treatment, they will not die.  There's been no related death's in the U.S. from someone who's received prompt treatment," says Heather Morgan Gulnac, Public Health Educator at Tioga County Health Department.

If you spot a fox or other animal acting erracticly or agressively, stay away from it, and call the sheriff office, or the county health department.
