Update: Fracking Deadline Stirs More Division

The issue that has divided communities, political groups,  and residents of the Tier is heating up again:

With the state expected to miss a Thursday deadline to set fracking regulations, pro-gas groups launched a  new ad campaign, calling for the state to move forward with  the drilling process.

Joint Landowners Coalition of New York President Dan Fitzsimmons says the ad highlights that fracking is safe and would revive the economy.

"If we drive over the border and we look at what's going on in Pennsylvania, the jobs, the benefits that are coming in. Mike Krancer just recently came out with an op-ed that he just did the other day, that he talks about 250,000 new jobs that had just come into Pennsylvania, the economic benefits," said Fitzsimmons.

Anti-fracking groups continue to urge the state to make sure all  environmental and health studies are thorough before the state makes a decision.

The state will miss Thursday's deadline in part because of a health review on the impacts of fracking isn't expected to be complete.
