Binghamton Memorial

Another piece of the ACA Memorial is in place with Tuesday's addition of 13 glass birds.

The flock of birds representing the 13 victims of the 2009 shooting at the American Civic Association are internally illuminated with LED lights, and surround a central column illuminated with glass prisms.

Artist Milon Townsend said the display represents the ascending souls of the victims.

"I like the idea of creating something which will be seen and shared by the community, I think this will become a touch point. Each person creates the meaning of the work, it's not my position as the maker, that's up to them to write their own story, they see it," said artist Milon Townsend.

The memorial site is on the southeast corner of Front and Clinton streets, near the Clinton Street Bridge.
