Prospect Mountain Construction Update

BINGHAMTON -- Traffic will soon shift on Prospect Mountain near where Route 17 meets I-81 as the massive construction project enters it's next phase.

DOT officials say the shift should take place in about two weeks as paving between two bridges at what will be the Prospect Street Interchange is finished.  Phase one of the project will cost $135 million.

"Now we're completing the concrete paving between these two structures and our intention is to be able to complete that work, get traffic on that new section so that we can prepare to build that same type of work next year on the other side," said Jack Williams, Region 9 Director of the New York State Department of Transportation.

Williams says if weather permits work will continue on the substations, or large concrete columns, over the river.
