Town of Union Passes Budget

The Town of Union has unanimously approved its 2013 budget, which calls for tax hikes of 2.7 percent for the villages of Endicott and Johnson city, and 2.5 percent in the rest of the town...

For an average residential property, the increase is about four dollars per year in the villages, and ten dollars annually elsewhere in the town.
town supervisor Rose Sotak says the spending plan contains nothing unnecessary:
"We worked very hard in this budget, we went line for line.  We did not look at any wants, there was only strick needs. There was not giving in this budget,"  said Sotak

Drafts of the budget had slightly larger increases, which were worked down through  cuts in overtime spending.
