Owego Fire District Welcomes New Radio System

When you're responding to a fire emergency, communication is crucial--

and that's why Owego's two fire departments are welcoming a new two-way radio system.

It will link the district's two departments, be able to transmit over a larger area, without dead spots--and take part of the load off the county's 911 system:

Bob Bealo, of the  Town of Owego Fire District said, "Everyone was talking on the same frequency. We were all put on the same frequency. The county was dispatching on one and they had us as a separate frequency. Every second counts, and this will make our times shorter and coordinate our membership as to where we need to be."

The new system is being funded through a  15-thousand dollar donation from the Mildred Faulkner Truman Foundation.
