Mayor Ryan Returns from Anti-Fracking Rally in Albany

There are only 16 days left until the New York Department of Health's deadline to make fracking regulations, but the review is not complete.
Binghamton Mayor Matt Ryan travelled to Albany this weekend to speak with DEC Commissioner Joseph Martens about the issue.

The Department of Health has yet to pick its panel of outside experts for the review.

Ryan told us he talked with the commissioner about the importance of waiting for health studies to come out.

"I think everybody thinks this is a foregone conclusion that they're going to come out and say we shouldn't do this.  And that's my hope because we should be looking at renewable energies," said Ryan.

"It's ludicrous that this process is taking this long.  I have no objections to a health study.  That's not the issue.  But the regulations can be paused without the health study.  Things can progress," said Broome County Legislator Stephen Herz.

Herz continues to stress the jobs that would come to the area if fracking were allowed.
