2nd Annual Bookfest In Owego

Keeping kids interested in reading is a challenge for many parents.  To help keep kids engaged in learning and get them to love reading the second annual book fest took place at Owego Free Academy.

Over 450 people came out to the school to take part in a variety of activities including buying books, take part in arts and crafts  and listen to music.  There were kids from all different age groups in attendance.  Organizers say parents need to encourage their kids to read every day.

"When kids ask me what they can do to help, I say read 15 minutes a day to your baby right from birth and they'll have no problem reading," said Kristin Barton, President of Family Reading Partnership.

"The kids like to read and it's good for them and it's a lot of fun for them too," said Anthony Mancini, a Parent from Owego.

Award winning author Liz Rosenberg who writes books for young children was also on hand to read to the kids as well as sign books.
