BOCES Student Volunteer Fair

Officials at BOCES are hoping the "Power of One" will help  teens give back to the community.

Hundreds of local students signed up for volunteer work Wednesday, at the Community Service Fair.

Broome-Tioga BOCES worked with State Senator Tom Libous to host the  "Power of One"  event.

Over 350 students learned about volunteer service with 15 local agencies, including the Binghamton Zoo and the American Red Cross.

"It's a wonderful opportunity for students to really help out their community.  It's a great feeling," said BOCES Career Development Specialist Patty Gonz.

"I think this is awesome.  Just one day taken out to just help people, and understand and help this community.  I think it's great," said student Olivia Nasoni.

The Student Community Service Awards Program annually rewards ones student from each school in Libous' district with a $1000 college scholarship.
