Jensen lights-out in exhibition win

VESTAL -- Junior guards Jasbriell Swain and Stephanie Jensen each scored a team-high 14 points, leading Binghamton to a 70-45 win over Mansfield in an exhibition game on Tuesday night at the Events Center. The win marked the lone preseason game for the Bearcats.

Jensen scored 12 of her points in the opening 20 minutes as the Bearcats jumped out to a 30-21 halftime lead. She sanks four three-pointers during that stretch. Swain added seven points and five rebounds.

Mansfield led for much of the first half before a layup from senior forward Simone Thomas tied the score at 14-14. With the score tied at 16-16, the Bearcats closed the half on a 14-5 run in the final 9:04.

In the opening 5:27 of the second half, Binghamton went on a 13-5 run in the opening six minutes to take a 43-24 lead. Freshman Kandace Newry drained a pair of three pointers during that stretch. Binghamton shot 48 percent, hitting 16 of 33 shots.

Newry finished with 11 points as did senior forward Kara Elofson. Swain had nine rebounds while Elofson added seven rebounds.
Jena Matter finished with a team-best 14 points for Mansfield.
Binghamton opens up its regular season at St. Bonaventure at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
