BU Hoops eyes 3-point line for success

VESTAL -- Binghamton kicked off the Tommy Dempsey era with an exhibition win, and one of the keys was the team's three-point shooting.

In the first half, BU shot just 30 percent from beyond the arc and led by just five points at the break.  In the second 20 minutes, the Bearcats knocked down 50 percent of their threes on the way to a double-digit victory.

Overall, BU hoisted up 29 shots from three-point range, which seems like a lot.  However, Coach Dempsey believes it'll be a key to the team winning this season.

"I don't really get caught up in how many threes we take, I get caught up in the quality," said Dempsey. "If they're off inside out, if they're in transition, if they're off drive and kick, if they're off inside rebounds.  Those are the four ways we like to shoot it. If they're those types of threes, I think we'll shoot a high percentage over time."

Binghamton kicks off its season Friday at Loyola, before returning home on Sunday to host Brown.
