UPDATE: Apparent Murder/Suicide on Liberty Street in Binghamton

Two people were found dead early Thursday evening at an apartment in Binghamton--

Earlier in the afternoon -- Binghamton police were called to 124 Liberty St.  The Binghamton detective division confirms  Fox 40 that two bodies were found on the second floor of the building in what appears to have been a murder suicide.

Later, we were back on the scene and while no one was willing to  comment on camera -- neighbors were shocked at the turn of events.

Preliminary reports from Binghamton City Police are calling it a murder/suicide during which the male victim killed the female victim and then himself.  Authorities have not confirmed what the murder weapon was -- but have confirmed it was not a firearm.

Early in the evening, a handful of people placed flowers and held a candlelight vigil at the foot of the steps.

Police on the scene said they'd been ordered to restrict the camera shots to the front of the house----the reason being, they said, out of respect for the family--and because it is an on-going investigation.

A hearse was on scene,  presumably to take the bodies away. 

Also,  a city garbage compactor truck was on scene and officials could be seen tossing a heavy-looking object into the back of the truck before the truck left the scene.  Binghamton Police removed the caution tape and left the scene just before 9PM.
