American Red Cross in Need of Blood

The American Red Cross says the effects of Hurricane Sandy downstate and in New Jersey have made the need for blood critical.

The organization was at Sam's Club on the Vestal Parkway for a regularly scheduled blood drive that took on extra importance after Sandy.

"We're just trying to make up for the deficit, so that their hospitals and our hospitals will have enough blood. We need blood not just today, not just tomorrow. We need blood in the weeks and months to come. We don't know when these people will be up and going again," said Roberta Ayling the Supervisor of Operation with the American Red Cross.

Officials also say that they are always in need of blood and that the only time that they've had a full supply was after 9/11 due to overwhelming response.
