Community Remembers Susquehanna Boy Killed in Storm

SUSQUEHANNA COUNTY -- The death toll from Sandy includes a victim from our area.  Family and friends mourn the loss of 8 year old Matthew Stahl, a Susquehanna County boy who was killed by a falling tree in his front yard during the storm Monday.

"If there's one word to describe Matthew it would be passionate.  He was all boy, all the time...infectious smile," said Matthew's Pastor Robert Kadlecik, of Bridgewater Baptist Church.

Neighbors also expressed their sympathy.

"I'm really sorry for the mother and father.  i talked to the mother and she's a nice lady and her husband is nice," said neighbor Joe Briella.

Kadlecik said the community has come together to help the family during this difficult time.

"Obviously [Matthew's father] John said I hate that tree, and now it's gone.  Everyone's just been doing whatever they can to try to help," said Kadlecik.

Kadlecik said that his own son was a friend of Matthew.

"You know a one year old boy like my son, he accepts that at face value and he's like 'it'd be great to see Matthew eventually in heaven," said Kadlicek.

If you would like to make a donation to Matthew's family, they have set up a memorial fund through the community fund of Susquehanna County.
