Update: Latest on NYSEG Outages

NYSEG workers were also prepared for the worst going into Monday's storm.

But, the damage they had to deal with was less than expected.

Broome County had 1,400 NYSEG customers without service Monday night and fewer than 40 calls regarding downed power lines and trees.

As of 10pm Tuesday, NYSEG reports that 216 customers remain without power in Broome County, 9 in Tioga County, and more than 1300 in Delaware County.

"So most of our outages especially in this particular area are pretty well cleaned up at this point, and that a good thing because it will enable us to release personnel in this area to go to our down-state service area to help out where we have tens of thousands of customers without power," said Clayton Ellis the Manager of Corporate Communications with NYSEG.

Ellis said damage downstate could be worse than that from Hurricane Irene in August 2011.
