Although there was one tragic storm related death in the area, an 8-year old Pennsylvania boy, much of the Southern Tier escaped teh wrath of Hurricane Sandy.

Municipalities had crews on standby overnight in case high winds and rain created problems for the area.

But, in many places, including Binghamton, there was little damage and few emergencies when dawn came.

"We had as of 5:30 this morning the Department of Public Works had no phone calls. So that tells you how little we were impacted," said Binghamton Mayor Matt Ryan.

Many of the States of Emergency declared Monday night were lifted early Tuesday morning.
