Making Progress on Vestal's Budget

The Town of Vestal is hacking, sawing, and trimming and chipping away at it's proposed 9.3% proposed property tax hike.

One of the big items being considered for cost savings is the list of the town's 29 parks.

Town Supervisor John Schaffer said some of them could be closed, or remain open for shorter hours.

The trimming has brought down a tax hike to 3.5% so far, but the town still has to get within the tax cap limit of 2%.

schaffer said cutbacks in winter plowing hours, and consolidation parts of the Parks and Highway Departments might also be considered.

He and board members said they want to avoid lay-offs.
