Binghamton School Board Approves New Superintendent

The Binghamton School District voted Tuesday night to hire a new superintendent of schools.

After reviewing more than a dozen candidates, the board has selected Marion Martinez, who is a past administrator and superintendent of Connecticut's State Department of Education.

Martinez would begin the job in January.  She will replace Peggy Wozniak, who is retiring after heading the Binghamton School District for the past decade.

School Board President Maura Kammerman said Martinez was the top choice among the stakeholders and board members.

"It's nice to feel that she's coming in with the support of all the stakeholders and all the board members.  There wasn't a disagreement at all," said Kammerman.

Martinez has a Doctoral degree in Education from the University of Hartford in Connecticut.
