Schumer: Sikorsky Should Exit Quickly

Senator Charles Schumer is asking Sikorsky aircraft to make a quick and clean exit from big flats, and help the 570 workers he says the company has "turned its back on."

Sikorsky recently announced it would be closing the Chemung County facility by the end of this year leaving almost 600 workers without jobs.

Schumer says Sikorsky should quickly pay off a 25 million dollar mortgage from the county, which includes a seven million dollar contribution from local taxpayers.

The senator says Sikorsky  should  pay off the mortgage in one lump sum, rather than mothballing the facility with month to month payments.

That way, the county could quickly market the site to new owners.
