Two People Escape House Fire in Greene

Crews from multiple departments, including from as far as Harpursville battled Tuesday afternoon's blaze on Indian Brook Road.
When firefighters arrived on the scene there were heavy flames and black smoke coming from the back of the house.
The Greene Fire Department Chief says it took crews nearly two hours to knock out the flames.
"This is a pretty good save considering the age of the house. With this type of construction, it's hard to contain them because everything, the studs run through the ceiling and then the fire enters the structure. It can run right through the house and we have to chase it to get it knocked down," said Greene Fire Chief Dan Montgomery.
Water tanks were called in but a nearby pond was used as a water supply. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
