Looking for Budgets Cuts in Vestal

A Vestal Town Board work session Monday night left town Supervisor John Schaffer frustrated at the current proposed budget.

Schaffer said the board has been working very hard to whittle down a proposed tax hike of more than 9%.

The work session was held mostly in executive session, but could be heard in loud discussions of what to cut to get the tax hike down to the 2% tax cap.

Shaffer said cutting jobs is the last resort and will try other measures first.

According to Shaffer, the board is about $100,000 short in savings measures to avoid laying people off, and the search for cost savings will continue.
