Gillibrand: Legislation Will Turn Science Into Profits

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand celebrates new legislation she says will spur the growth of new science and technology jobs in the Southern Tier at Binghamton University Monday.

Called "America Innovates Act," Gillibrand's bill will provide researchers with capital and training to turn researchers' discoveries into marketable products, companies, and jobs.

The bill aims to have universities across the nation see an expansion in current programs and business training.

"But an idea like this that we're talking about today could really make a difference, helping these great scientific breakthroughs come from an idea in a lab to a commercialized product that we can sell would make an enormous difference in terms of economic opportunity and growth," said Senator Kirsten Gillibrand.

As part of the SUNY 2020 plan that Governor Cuomo approved Binghamton University plans to open a  job creation incubator downtown in 2015.
