Whitney Point Lake Draining

They have begun the process of drawing down the lake by five feet.
The draw down is required so they can install some upgrades to equipment that measures the lake's elevation. It says the slow rate of the draw down and doing it this time of year minimizes the impact on fish and other wild life.
"Public safety is our number one priority so its really important we always have an accurate measurement of the lake elevation at that project and by maintaining and upgrading the equipment we'll have accurate data." says Julie Fritz, Chief of Water Control.
Officials say they hope to have the installation completed in the next couple of weeks and then will raise the lake back to its normal elevation of 973 feet.
