More Expansion at Greater Binghamton Airport

If the economy improves, the Greater Binghamton Airport is ready to handle new business.

It is expanding its ability to house private aircraft, thanks to a $600,000 grant from the state and airport-generated funds.

With Broome County Executive Debbie Preston on hand, the demolition of the current 30-year-old structures began today.  Two new structures will be built to accommodate 20 aircraft, which is five more than the current maximum.

"These hangars are instrumental in the operations at BGM," Preston said.  "It's through these leases that we are able to operate the airport with little cost to our taxpayers.  This new construction project will put more local construction companies and local workers to work."

Construction is expected to be completed in mid-December.
