BU Unveils New Athletic Fields

Binghamton University is hoping to improve its own bottom line with Friday's unveiling of its brand new athletic fields.

Nearly two years in the making the baseball, softball, and tennis teams finally have a brand new facility to call home.  It includes 12 tennis, six handball, and two basketball courts as well as new varsity baseball and softball fields.

"We definitely feel more like one big team when we're closer to all the other complexes," said BU Softball 2nd baseman Mikayla King.

"I think everyone's hoping that now we're centrally located, we'll get both more campus support and definitely local community support," said BU Softball 3rd baseman Jessica Bump.

"Now, we have a home.  It's a place where the guys feel like its theirs because it is, and hopefully they'll use the home-field advantage to secure some wins in the springtime," said BU Baseball Coach Tim Sinicki.

The University hopes the new fields will give them an edge on the competition within the American East Conference and help recruit new athletes and more boosters for the school.
