Speed Limit on Vestal Rail Trail Following Accident

Next time you bike on the Rail Trail, make sure to maintain a safe speed.

Vestal Police are enforcing a 10 miles per hour speed limit on the trail after an accident  earlier this month.

James Murphy was riding a bike when he hit a woman who was walking on the trail.

They both were cut and bruised. Murphy is charged with Third Degree Assault.

"We would like this to go ahead smoothly.  Just slow down and be aware of people walking on the trail.  Everybody should be able to enjoy the trail, not worry about getting run over," said Vestal Chief of Police John Butler.

Butler says that signs will be placed in the park next week, and police will be on hand to enforce the law.
