Chenango Economic Forum

Chenango County invited the public's input at a meeting Wednesday night.

As leaders look to update their five year Economic Development Plan.

"A lot has happened since 2007, one the great recession of 07 to 09 has changed a lot of economic equations, number two for Chenango County especially the emergence of Chobani as a major leader in the dairy processing industry," said Steve Craig, President of Commerce Chenango.

President of Commerce Chenango says that the 2007 plan is still largely intact and it's the details that need to be focused on now are infrastructure, workforce development, and having a business friendly environment. And having meetings like this can help out greatly.

"It's very important because no one has a monopoly on good ideas, folks in there represent a wide cross section of our community," said Steve Craig.

Local officials like Terry Stark the Mayor of Oxford say this is a valuable opportunity to better understand where their county is headed.

"We as communities whether it's the village of Oxford, or Sherburne or Greene, or Bainbridge or Afton, unless we start talking on a regional level, and we talk to the county , the region, the state we're all going in different directions, if we don't do that there we're all reinventing the wheel on a local basis," said Mayor of Oxford Terry Stark.
