Police Helicopter Forced Landing After Finding Body of Missing Woman

A police search helicopter makes an emergency landing after locating the  body of a missing woman Friday morning in the Town of Campbell in Steuben County.

Authorities say 28 year old Melissa Sherry had been missing since Monday, and was last seen near Manning Ridge Road.

After spotting the body,  police were returning from the search mission, when the helicopter developed mechanical problems.
 
Authorities describe the result as a hard landing after a controlled but powerless descent.

The landing was hard enough to cause injury to the pilot,  who was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with non life threatening injuries.
