The Youth Movement: Freshman move-in day at BU

VESTAL -- More than 2,500 freshman moved into Binghamton University Thursday.  Many of those students were born in 1994, which also happened to be a pretty good year for something else.

Forrest Gump, The Lion King and Shawshank Redemption are just a few of the movies coming out when this year's incoming Binghamton freshman class was born.  A year that'll certainly be remembered for its box office hits.

"Shawshank Redemption is a good one, because Morgan Freeman is a good guy and you can't go wrong with Forrest Gump and all the other ones so classic movies there," said Tom Vazquez, and incoming student.

1994 may not seem like 18 years ago, but no matter what year the students were born, some things about move-in day never change. Especially when it comes to the challenges.

"I haven't seen my Mom break down yet," said Vazquez.  "I think the car ride home for her is going to be a little rough."

Just like in many of the movies that came out the year they were born, college for these students will be unpredictable, but if the 1994 movies are any indication, this freshman calss is in for quite a ride.

"If those movies do reflect our class," said Mark Freithaler. "I think we have an interesting year coming."

"We're in for an interesting year," Vazquez said. "I can say that much."
