Mets, Binghamton extend contract to keep the B-Mets in town

BINGHAMTON -- The New York Mets announced a four-year contract extension with their Double-A affiliate Binghamton Thursday, keeping the B-Mets in town through 2016.

We are pleased to continue our affiliation agreement with the New York Mets and as this season draws to a close, we look forward to our 22nd year as a New York Mets affiliate in 2013, said team owner Mike Urda in a release from the team Thursday.

This season marks the 21st season the Binghamton Mets have been affiliated with the New York club, but reports earlier this spring had the team moving away from the Southern Tier.  However, after rumors the Mets could take the their Double-A affiliate to Ottawa, the team is staying put at NYSEG Stadium for now.

The 2012 version of the B-Mets finish up their season with a series against the Trenton Thunder at home this weekend.
