Federal Grant to Encourage Underrepresented Groups for Grad Work

Out-educating the global competition--

That's what Senator Kirsten Gillibrand says is the key to the U.S. leading the world economy.

Gillabrand says that's why she and Senator Schumer have helped bring a 250-thousand dollar federal grant to Binghamton University.

It's aimed specifically at helping first generation college students, or students from traditionally underrepresented groups.

The money would help such students with graduate work and doctoral programs.

Grad students will be encouraged to  pursue math. science and engineering degrees .
