Good Weather Shines on Memorial Race

The weather couldn't have been much better this year for the Chris Thater Stop DWI Memorial Race.

It drew hundreds of runners and bycyclists, including some top professionals.  And, this year, it completed its full run with the event spanning Saturday and Sunday.

It was a stark contrast to last year's race.  The second day cancelled after the big rains started to fall on Saturday night, leading to the big September flood.

"We really needed great weather to come back from the unfortunate weather last year," said Stop DWI Coordinator Chris Marion.  "It was difficult for a lot of riders to get out here, and to have it cancelled at this point and to have it done again, as a whole, but our sponsors came back, our volunteers, our fans, our athletes, all came back like they do every year, which shows how important this event is to the community and how much support we get from everyone involved."

Marion feels that although the cyclists and the runners might change from year to year, the memory of Chris Thater, who was killed by a drunk driver, will not fade.
