Update on Huron Tax Debate

ENDICOTT --  Mayor John Bertoni says Town of Union officials hid their negotiations with Huron Real Estate from Endicott.
 
Now, Union Deputy Supervisor Rose Sotak has released a timeline of the towns negotiations with Huron. 

Tax payments for properties on the old IBM campus are at stake.

Sotak points to several attempts to meet with Endicott officials about the negotiations: a June 27th e-mail, July 3rd phone message, and July 5th letter.  The statement also claims an August 2nd meeting was cancelled by Endicott's attorney.  According to the Town of Union, Huron has agreed to pay taxes on a $40 million assessment.

This means an Endicott homeowner with a house valued at $75,000 will pay about $400 more in taxes.

If Huron had asked for the assessment to be set at $15 million, that would have cost that homeowner about $500 more in taxes.

Union officials say taking the case to court would have cost about $450,000.
