Star Gazers Hoping for a Clear Night

(Source: Kate Thornton)

Monday night was one of the last nights to see the Perseids meteor shower.  Kopernik Observatory in Vestal had their doors open late to the public for anyone wanting wish upon a shoot star.

The best viewing conditions are a clear sky, no moon, and away from light pollution.

Folks can see as many as one shooting star a minute.  This meteor shower is probably one of the most popular, since it occurs in mid-August every year.  This meteor shower gets the name "Perseids" because it appears to radiate from the constellation Perseus.
