Jeff Gordon talks about his chances and his favorites for Sunday's Finger Lakes 355
8/11/2012 (Updated 10:53:47 PM)WATKINS GLEN -- Road courses tend to be one of the things NASCAR drivers don't like to do. But, it's a necessary evil. You'll have specialists like Boris Said and Marcos Ambrose suddenly become guys you have to watch out for.
This year that might not be the case. Jeff Gordon, always a driver that has excelled on the road course, is fresh off a win at Pocono, and someone who is a favorite this Sunday at Watkins Glen International. But according to Gordon he likes two other drivers this weekend...
"[Dale Earnhardt] Junior has not lead as many laps or won as many races as Jimmie [Johnson], but yet there's a reason why (both) are where they're at [sic] in the points, said Gordon. "They've been consistently up front every weekend, and they're rock solid."
Today at the Glen racers qualified for the Finger Lakes 355. For the 2nd straight year a driver set a qualifying record. Juan Pablo Montoya won the pole with a lap around turn 11 in 69.438 seconds.
Kurt Busch, Jimmie Johnson, Brad Keslowski and Marcos Ambrose round out the top five.
