Jets Training Camp: Defense excited to keep hitting

CORTLAND, NY -- Sunday was a day off for the Jets to recover from the first week or so of training camp.  For the offense, it was a day off where they didn't have to go up against one of the NFL's best defenses.

The defense once again flexed its muscles Saturday night in the Green vs. White Scrimmage at Cortland Stadium.

They forced a fumble and surrendered just one touchdown to the first and second team offense in the about 60 plays that were run.

Not only was the scrimmage another chance for the defense to flex its muscles, but it was also a rare chance to get some live hitting in.  With the new NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement, there are plenty of rules keeping hitting to a minimum of camp, so the scrimmage was a welcome change for linebacker Aaron Maybin.

"Me and Rex were talking a couple of days ago, me and that slowdown button don't get along too well," Maybin said Saturday after the scrimmage. "But I'm learning.  I think at the end of the day we're excited to be out here flying around, moving around, and having a chance to get in those live situations.  You try to pull up as much as possible, but at the end of the day you just try to make sure nobody gets hurt."

The Jets continue preseason practice Monday starting at 10:15 a.m. as they prepare for their first preseason game Friday night.
